Shadya and Shandell were born connected at the abdomen at the end of February. They shared a liver but not a biliary tract, and because they also had their
own hearts and other vital organs, they can now live independent lives.
The surgery, which was performed at a hospital in Lima, lasted eight hours and
involved a team of 30 doctors and nurses.
It is being seen as a great accomplishment for Peruvian
medicine.
The baby girls are expected to go home with their parents in the coming days,
but they will have to be monitored as they grow. Good work Doc.
