Health tip: National Child Abuse Awareness Month

Did you know that children who are abused have higher rates of obesity, alcoholism, depression, cancer, heart disease and diabetes?

When children experience trauma, their social, emotional and brain development suffer. This makes them more likely to be at risk of unhealthy behaviors and disease.

April is National Child Abuse Awareness Month. Use this month as a reminder we all play a role in preventing child abuse. Children depend upon the eyes and ears of the community to help keep them safe. If you have a concern about the safety of a child, call the Child Protection Hotline at 225-5144, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
