Fayose joins Ekiti governorship race

FORMER Governor Ayo Fayose, on Friday, in Ado-Ekiti, made a formal declaration to contest for Ekiti State governorship in 2014.
He promised to re-absorb into the civil service, those who, he said, were sacked by the Governor Kayode Fayemi-led administration, if elected.
Fayose, who criticised the state government for running local governments through caretaker committees, described the situation as an aberration and promised to conduct the council elections immediately in the event he is sworn in as governor.
At a ceremony held in Ajilosun area of Ado-Ekiti, attended by supporters of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) across the 177 wards and 16 local government areas of the state, as well as the six states of the South-West geopolitical zone, Fayose said he would dislodge Governor Fayemi if the PDP presented him as its candidate next year.
Fayose’s letter of intent, addressed to the state party chairman, Chief Makanjuola Ogundipe, was submitted to the State Working Committee, whose members were also present at the ceremony.
The letter read: “This is to notify you of my intention to contest for the gubernatorial primary of our great party with the intention of becoming the gubernatorial candidate and subsequently win the 2014 governorship election in Ekiti State.”
Dignitaries at the event included Fayose’s wife, Feyisetan; his former deputy, Mr Abiodun Aluko; PDP chairmen in Ogun and Lagos states, Mr Dayo Bayo and Mr Tunji Shelle, respectively; Zonal Youth Leader, Bolaji Jeje; Women Leader, Ogun State, Lawumi Eyuba and PDP Board of Trustees (BoT) member, Senator Clement Awoyelu.
