Another News on Twin Babies: Couple Remanded For Selling Their Twin Babies




Mr. and Mrs. Augustine Agbona, the Ogwashi-Uku-based couple who allegedly sold their set of twins last week have been remanded in prison custody by an Asaba Chief Magistrate’s Court.

The couple along with two others simply identified as Okolie and Ebere are standing trial for the sale of the infants to a Lagos-based woman, Okogwu for N400,000.

Mrs. Agbona who was recently delivered of the set of twins (a boy and a girl) at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Asaba, Delta State, allegedly sold them in connivance with her husband.

They were nabbed by members of the Asaba Community Police who handed them over to the police for further investigation.

According to the Public Relations Officer of the state Police Command, ASP Lucky Uyabeme, confessions of the couple led to the arrest of other suspects.

ASP Uyabeme added that the babies, who were recovered from the alleged buyer, have been handed over to the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Welfare in Asaba for proper care.

Okolie, a staff of the Welfare Department in the state Ministry of Women Affairs and Ebere based in Ogwashi-Uku who allegedly facilitated the sale of the infants were granted bail after fulfilling the conditions, while the court ordered that the couple should be remanded after failing to meet bail demands.

The husband, Augustine was remanded in Ogwashi-Uku Prisons, while the wife, Ebele was remanded in Agbor Prisons by the court.

Further hearing in the case has been adjourned till 16 May, 2013.
