The Lagos State Government will on Monday (Today) commence the registration of Lagosians who are resident in the state. The latest registration, according to the state government is for easy planning and efficient allocation of the state resources. Read more....
The takeoff of the exercise was disclosed by the General Manager of the Lagos State Residents Registration Agency, Ms. Yinka Fashola, while she was addressing news-makers on Friday in Lagos.
She said, “The main purpose of the registration is for planning and the efficient allocation of resources. It is not a census. The issue here is that there is no point planning for so many people when you don’t know who they are, where they live, what their road, water and electricity needs are. The only way to know is to go out there and register them.
The card that will be issued from the registration point will give residents access to health, transportation and other services rendered by the state government.
When asked whether it will be possible to have beggars, destitute and street urchins registered, Fashola said nobody would be left out in the exercise.
She said, “The truth is that everybody is coming from somewhere. No matter where you are in the world, you have an address.
Fashola had equally revealed that the agency, at the point of recruiting registration officers had received applications from many Ph.D, and M.sc holders for the job as well as degree holders. I think this is a good development. Gov. Fashola; keep the good work....
